Types of Roses
David Austin Roses & Shrub Roses
Our carefully selected range of English Roses originally bred by David Austin Roses and our Shrub roses, are mainly modern versions of classic vintage garden roses but still with that distinct old fashioned charm and elegance. Large, exquisitely shaped deeply cupped flowers and beautiful strong aromas and wafting scents, but with much improved health and most important of all, the ability to repeat flower through summer and early autumn unlike most old shrub roses which generally only flower once a year and have much greater problems with disease.
Shrub, English and David Austin Roses make great individual statement plants but also work really well in group bedding and mix really well when planted together with herbaceous and perennial plants providing added strength and support to flowering stems and also also look fantastic when flowering together.
David Austin English Roses and English Roses also make wonderful statement and feature plants when planted independantly in a large heavy pot using a John Innes No 3 compost.
Some of the David Austin Roses and English roses can also be used as short climbing roses if left un-pruned, see the Climbing Roses category for full details of David Austin Climbing Roses. Plant English and Shrub roses around 1.20m apart, flowering heights range from 90cm to 1.80m depending on chosen variety and pruning regime.
Shrub and English David Austin Standard roses produce fabulous large Standard heads well covered in large cupped, high scented blooms, flowering from June to late autumn in repeating flushes of bloom, plant at least 1.8m apart mid border, in a centre bed or in a very large heavy container for best results. These are grown and supplied as Full Standards (Flowering Height 180cm approx) where available.
